View Full Version : PC reboots when I plug in iPod nano

My 4GB 1st-gen nano is a little over a year old now and I just started having this problem a couple of weeks ago.

Sometimes when I plug the cable into a USB port while the PC is running, the PC instantly resets and starts its boot-up sequence. After that first reboot, some things like my LAN connection don't work so I have to reboot it again. The iPod connects properly any time after that first reboot though.
This doesn't always happen though; sometimes when I plug in my iPod nothing out of the ordinary happens, it just connects and starts charging.

There is no other apparent problem with my iPod. It plays and charges just fine. This has happened to me on more than one USB port and the USB ports all work normally with other devices, including supplying power to them.

I'm using Windows XP and I'm aware that instead of showing infamous the Blue Screen of Death, by default it's set to just reboot. So it's possible that the iPod isn't causing a reboot directly but is just crashing the OS, which in turn sets off the reboot. I'm not sure what it is.

Has anyone else encountered something similar to this?
