View Full Version : 1 iPod 30gb video for 2 computers?
Is it possible to sync my iPod video to two computers?
I just upgraded (from a mini) to a 30gb video this morning. Last night I bought a tv show season pass and it only downloaded half the season available at my home laptop. Then this morning I bought the iPod and sync it to my office computer (and log-in with my current apple account), this office computer automatically downloaded the remeaining season available (the episodes that wasn't downloaded last night).
My question is, when I get home tonight and plug my iPod at my laptop, will my songs here and tv show "add" to my current playlist?
If not, what's the best solution so I can use two computers for 1 iPod?
Thanks in advance! :)

You can't auto-sync an iPod to two different computers -- you'll lose iPod content unless the two libraries are identical (not likely!) What you can do is either:
a- Leave your iPod set for auto-sync and designate your home library to be just that, the "home library". If you connect to any other library you'll need to remember to prevent an auto-sync by pressing and holding the Control and Shift keys as soon as you connect to the other computer, or just be sure to Cancel if you're prompted to erase and re-sync to the "new" library. In this mode you cannot add media to your iPod from other libraries, but if your iPod has "Disk Mode" enabled you can use unused disk capacity to transfer media from one computer to your home computer, then add that media to your home iTunes library and re-sync your iPod to add it properly.
- or -
b- Manually manage your iPod to allow you to safely connect to any library. But as you collect media from other libraries, you may want to extract that media from your iPod and put it into your home library (there are several 3rd party applications for this). As above, you can also use disk mode to transfer media from one computer to another then add to your home iTunes as needed.
Since your work computer automatically downloaded the remaining videos, you'll need to transfer these shows home. The easiest way might be to use disk mode to transfer the native files home, then add to your home iTunes account. You may want to go back and delete the versions at the office.
Also, check to see if you have your iTunes store preferences set for "1-Click" purchasing or "Shopping Cart". I'm surprised that your work computer picked up where your home computer left off in the download process, unless you have your account set for 1-Click which might contribute to this behavior?

Purchased content is able to move from one computer to another anyway, so you'll be fine. If you connect it to your home computer again, it will ask if you want to transfer your iTunes purchases currently on your iPod to your computer too. It's a nice feature.
