Hi!!
I don't have an Ipod, and I have never had one. I've had regular mp3 players (all of which I lost, funnily enough). For the past two weeks I have really felt like buying an Ipod, but here in Spain they cost nearly twice as much as in the US (365 dollars for the 30 gb one).
If I do spend that ridiculous amount of money I obviously don't want it to be outdated in a short amount of time.
I don't need more space, but I wouldn't want my Ipod to be very outdated. Should I wait for a new one to come out or is that unlikely to happen for a long while?
What are your opinions?

well I don't know anything about Spain. But a new iPod comes out pretty much every year and in the U.S we're expecting on this summer (July). I recommend you buy a refurbished one from apple online. They are a lot cheaper.

They don't sell any refurbished ones in Spain, is there any way I can buy a refurbished one from an Apple Store other than the Spanish one?

I would wait if I were you. There should be new iPod coming very soon, September at the absolute latest. I know September is a long ways away so if one doesn't come by July then I would buy something small just to tie you over until September.

When I bought my iPod last February there were rumors of a new one coming any day. I'm glad I didn't wait because I would have missed out on 6 months of use. Even then it wasn't much of an update. In fact if I had waited for that they released in September I probably would have been mad I waited that long for such a minor update.

There is always something new around the corner. If you like what is out right now then just buy it. You can always sell it later or just buy a new one. But chasing the newest thing is not a good habit to get into.

You could also try eBay, if it exists for Spain.

It depends on how badly you need it. Can you wait 4,maybe 5 or 6 more months for it?
There will always be something better, you can waste your time always waiting. Waiting isn't just about getting the latest but it can also be about getting the older version dirt cheap.

I think the shuffles and nano's are a good 6-8 months from an update, maybe more,so those would be safe buys. The regular ipods are due for a major update but I can't see anything between now and the time the iPhone drops in June. July/August would seem to be the time for a new iPod especially if it takes on the iPhones form.

The best time to buy an ipod is when you want it and have the money. Even if a new one is released a month later,it's not like yours will all of a sudden suck or be worthless. It's not like it will stop doing what it was made to do.

The only time I would wait is if an Apple event has been announced and confirmed or if the feature you most want is not currently available (i.e radio tuner) but is rumored to be included in the pending update.

You could spend all that time waiting only to find you don't like the latest iPods...then what? You've wasted all that time you could have used enjoying a perfectly good ipod.

Your ipod won't be outdated that fast. It's not like there will be a new 6th gen exclusive codec that offers cd sound in a 1MB file or that it will play videos in HD. The things that could truly outdate a 5.5G ipod likely won't be included in the 6G's.

I'd either go overseas and get one, or get a cheaper one either from Apple or a third party online retailer. I'm sure they sell iPods in Spain somewhere...some retailer must carry it.

If you don't want it outdated in a short amount of time, iPod's not for you. iPods update quite frequently compared to other MP3 players.

Just go buy one. If you like music as much as I do, you cannot survive a day without your iPod. I carry mine everywhere. You won't regret it.

Technology will not wait for you, therefore don't wait for technology.

If this is the last iPod you'll purchase in a few years time and you're concerned with having the latest & greatest, then you might as well wait. What you purchase now will surely be outdated in about 6 months.

The iPod with video will certainly not be "outdated" as in unuseable..in fact it'll probably do most of what the current iPod does with the exception of a possible appearance change.

That being said, if you can wait until Fall 2007 which I truely believe will be the date a new iPod Video will come out then do it, if not you aren't going to be obsolete by buying one now.

I for sure suggest you get one now if its MAINLY for music.

Thank you for your replies, I wanted to know if there is one about to come out, but I have noticed that Apple doesn't really say much until they are actually out.
If I get one I am not going to wait, because now I will give it a lot of use!

As to where to get one, in Spain they are sold in the Apple Store and in large shopping centres, but the 30 GB Video Ipod costs 369 dollars (279 euros) and the 80 GB Video Ipod costs 500 dollars (379 euros). And the worst is that the price went up from last year, which I find ridiculous (from 249 to 279 euros).
They don't sell any refurbished ones because not many people buy them (due to the price). At the moment the only restored ones for sale are 4th generation 4 GB Nanos for 197 dollars.

I thought about Ebay, but I'm not sure I want to buy it on Ebay as most are refurbished and I am not sure I could do something if it broke or was faulty.

I thought about buying a refurbished one in the UK and having it sent here, but with the shipping costs I wouldn't be saving much and I might still have a problem with the guarantee.

Sorry I go on about this, I just find it terribly frustrating that the Ipod is soooo expensive here. Especially when we can't even download any TV series from Itunes Store!

Thanks for all your advice, I will probably be forking out the massive sum of 370 dollars for a 30 GB Ipod.

I'm so tempted to buy one too! But I'm more tempted to wait...

I have a 20GB 4G model... and i have like 100MBs left... I have the money already to buy an 80GB 5.5G... but i would DIE if the appearence changes on the next release.

I'm one of the ones thinking (and certainly hoping) that 6G will be like the iphone. its so goddarn cute

I guess I'll wait.
