Hey, I finally got my Win98SE computer to recognize my iPod but I ran into another problem. I downloaded Ephpod version 2.58 and when I opened it, it told me it could not build ipod_control. I followed the directions in another post and deleted my current ipod_control file so Ephpod could create its own. It did so and everything seemed to work fine. I proceded to transfer about 3000 songs onto my ipod that night...I unplugged and listened and everything was fine.

However, when I tried opening Ephpod a second time, it gave me the same ipod_control problem. I ignorantly figured deleting the current control folder again would solve my problem like it did the first time, but it just deleted all my 3000 songs. Even after doing this, Ephpod could not create its own ipod_control folder. I clicked next--->next anyway and then Ephpod gave me the following message:
"Ephpod cannot write to your iPod Drive. Your copy of MacOpener or MacDrive is not working properly. Make sure that your trial period has not expired."

Why am I getting this message now? The first time I used EphPod it told me i should get MacOpener, but i didn't, and everything worked fine. Why the sudden change?
Do I need to pay $50 for MacOpener to get all this to work?

Your help is appreciated.

There are two versions of ephpod on their website. One version for Windows iPods and one for Mac iPods. Did you by any chance download the one for Mac iPods?

Both versions will tell you to get a copy of MacOpener, but only one version will actually install the trial version. It sounds like you get the wrong version.

Uninstall ephpod and macopener, it should be installed.

Make sure your iPod is formatted as a WiPod (run the Updater and click on "restore") and then try it all again.
