I have liked the ex71's bass. If you've heard the EX71's, what models have comparable or better bass, but also have better clarity?

I'm only interested in in-ear models, since I need them compact. Just as important, I need something to block out New York City subway noise.

They also have to be easy to remove, since I often have to remove them to talk to others.

Thank you.

if you like EX71 bass, then you'll love the JVC FX33. I've said it so many times, easily beats the EX71 in terms of SQ, isolation, build quality, comfort, and price. I have yet to find many (if any) faults from the FX33.

in terms of clarity, the EX90LP (when modded) pack some nice punch in SQ. However, isolation is greatly reduced as it does acquire a more open type canalphone (isolation compared to EX71SL)

price = FX33
SQ = EX90LP
Isolation = FX33

The best isolating phones tend to be those with double and triple flanges - but most lack bass. (ER6i, etc.)

The best bass phones generally seem to isolate a little less well than the EX71. (EX90, VMV)

The exceptions are the Ultimate Ears Super Fi 5EB which combines isolation with great bass, the Panasonic HJE70, the Sennheiser CX300 and the VM BF.
