I download a lot of talk radio programs. When I turn off my ipod and leave it off for more than 36 hours I lose my place in the program. Does anyone know a way to save where you are for a longer period of time ?

Right-click, "Get Info" (or File->Get Info, or [CTRL]-[I]):

Options tab:

[X] Remember playback position.

You can do this for many files at once ([SHIFT]-click to highlight a continuous group of songs, or [CTRL]-click for a discontinuous group), but the "Multiple Item Information" screen doesn't have any tabs. Just the one main screen, and the Remember Position option is a drop-down "Yes/No" menu rather than a checkbox. The end result is the same, however. iTunes and iPod will keep track of your position in the file and will start from that position next time you play it.

Syncing to the computer before the 36 hours with the remember playback position on (mentioned above) will store the bookmark on your PC. Sync again after the 36 hours and the PC bookmark will be copied to your iPod. That should get you indefinite storage.

Does this mean that if you don't sync within the 36 hours, that you will lose the bookmark, even if you have "Remember Playback Position" turned on?

No, remember playback position should do it as well. Just thought I'd mention that the PC could store it as long as you want.

You can even listen on the PC and it will start where you left off on the iPod, and if you pause on the PC and sync again, you can pick up on the iPod where you left off on the PC.

I think the issue comes down that iPod can sometimes lose playback positions if the iPod goes into Deep Sleep before syncing back to the computer. Things are left okay if the iPod just goes into hibernation. Similarly they can be lost from the iPod if a reset is done before the iPod is synced back to the computer.

My only thought is that it would appear that playback position is only written to a temp memory, so it's important to try to sync such to try to get the playback position written to the file itself.
