I'm trying to convert some vidoes to my ipod but some videos don't seem to be able to convert which i don't understand y... hope i'm able to receive some advice here.

Here's the case;
I'm able to convert some avi and ra files but I can't convert some other files which is the same as well too! Am I missing something? I don't understand since they're the same type of files...??

I tried to convert a few avi and ra files but when I'm ready to convert, I was told that I don't have the codecs. So i downloaded the necessary codecs but I still face the same problem! I believe I do have the codecs since I'm able to watch it on my notebook.

Does anyone facing the same problem or is it just me?? Btw... i'm a Windows user

:confused:

I think we need some more information to help you:

1. What program do you use to convert your videos?

2. Can you open one or two of your avi files that won't convert with MediaInfo (http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/en), set View to HTML and post the information it displays here?

Avi and ra are just containers, so saying "I've got an avi file" doesn't provide much information about what's inside the container.

And just a word of advise: do not install codec packs unless you know what you're doing, this can cause software conflicts that are not easy to solve.

Even though the files seem the same, they could have very different videos in them.

Anyway, what program are you using at the moment? Have you tried Videora? Any other Converters?

I know that different programs I've tried have worked better with different formats. I think any encoder that is based on mencoder will have more compatibility in general. A couple of programs I know that encode using mencoder as their backend include MeGUI or Ivy Converter work OK for me without having to install any extra codecs (They seem to come included with them).

it's actually the file name that's creating the problem...! that's just it! sigh
coz some of my files consist of chinese and japanese charater and hence it can't be recognized. so when i rename it into english then it's ok... just that.
