Hello, I recently got a 1G 5GB Ipod and was wondering if I can use this on Windows XP? Will I just have to follow the 'How to convert your Mac-iPod into a Windows-iPod' instructions?

Thanks!

Yep, just connect it up to the firewire card, update with the Windows firmware, install your favorite management program, and you are good to go.

i thought all first generation ipods only work with mac??

**UPDATE** (from the lounge's very own FAQ)

M8513: Original scrollwheel version 5GB (Mac only)
M8541: Original scrollwheel version 5GB (Mac only)
M8709: Original 10GB original scrollwheel version (Mac only)
M8697: 'New' scrollwheel 5GB PC version

so it depends on which model you have.

Hmm...I don't have a MAC and I've had a 1st gen for 20 months, or at least I thought I did. =P

Actually, there were ways to get a Mac formatted gen 1 iPod to work on Windows, such as ephPod and xPlay, but you had to really, really, want one, and put in the time and voodoo to get it to work. Then when Apple released the MMJB plugin they came out with a firmware update that made the gen 1 Windows compatible.

BTW There are more than a few of us Windows users here, who had gen 1's, and remember the days when it really was a science project to get the thing to work.
