FINALLY GOT IT! Youtube vids ?

i finally got my iPod 2day. YAY!!! so i did a little researching of how to put youtube vids on my iPod and i got one downloaded and all then converted from flv to avi like they said. but the AVI wont play in WMP or drag into iTunes so that i can convert it. what did i do wrong ?

You have to convert it to mp4, not AVI. Try looking for Any Video Converter. I use that. It has iPod format and other formats as well, but is mainly for iPod. And it is free. :)

i know i have to convert to .mp4 but dont i have to convert to .avi first ? i used this guide to get it on my iPod http://www.uneasysilence.com/archive/2006/02/5444/ is it correct ?

Any Video Converter will convert it directly to MP4, without going through various file formats.

This works really well. I've used it on several occasions. It's not the highest resolution video, but it's perfect for an iPod or PSP.

Maybe you don't have the codecs to convert the AVI to the mp4 format used by the iPod.. I think it might be easier for you to use a program like iTube or Ivy Video Converter. I myself use the Ivy program, which has worked fine for me. All the youtube videos have worked great. iTube is also alright, although it has crashed a couple of times.. The best thing about these programs is it's a one off conversion to the iPod, no converting to avi in the middle etc, and the quality is great.

I use Replay AV8 to download and convert Youtube and other online videos. Works great.

To Save vids from youtube and other video sites I use - http://keepvid.com and http://vixy.net/ . The vixy one will convert directly to MP4 files for your iPod, keepvid will convert to .wmv which then need to be converted for the iPod; I use Jodix free ipod video converter.
