My ipod is detected by my computer but cannot be configured, none of the ipod programs (itunes, updater) can detect it, and the ipod does not show up in the drive list in My Computer. Please help me or point me in the right direction. A prelim question: Are 3rd gen ipods "mac ipods" or "windows ipods" like 2nd gen (I think that's how it was)? Wondering if maybe I was given the wrong type of ipod. Anyway, here are the details:
I just bought a 3rd gen 20G Ipod. I'm on a laptop PC running
Windows XP Professional and connecting via USB 2.0. At a certain point during installation of the software, a window told me the ipod needed to be configured. However, when I plugged it into the USB port and clicked to continue, nothing happened (I waited a couple minutes and re-clicked to be sure). I tried another approach: When I simply plug the USB cable into the USB port on my laptop, my computer detects that something has been plugged in and knows it is an ipod (the popup in my system tray says "Ipod USB Interface"). Then the New Hardware Wizard opens up, but it fails to configure and tells me the device may not work properly. I've had it try to configure both automatically and from the CD that came with the ipod, and neither has worked. I've exchanged ipods at Apple and the same has happened with the second ipod. That's all I can think to say. Any suggestions?? PLEASE HELP!!
