I'm currently travelling in Australia right now, and I'm going to be doing some long drives and would like to be able to listen to my iPod in the car, so I thought an FM modulator would be the best bet (seeing as how I dont know if my rental car will have a cassette adaptor, so that option is out) If I decided to buy an FM Modulator though, I would like to be able to use it when I get home, so I dont waste the money. I asked an employee at an Apple Store and he told me that an FM modulator from here would not work in North America... I thought that a radio frequency was a radio frequency no matter where in the world you are. Is he right?

Waiddaminute... u don't want a FM MODULATOR, u want a FM TRANSMITTER. Look, somebody may sell an International model (worldwide selectable). I believe US/Europe models exist.

Sorry for my error... I get my terms mixed up a bit. Either way, will an Australian Transmitter work in NA?

Sorry the last part of my post wasn't clear enuff. NO THERE ARE NOT COMPATIBLE, YOU MUST PURCHASE A UNIT THAT HAS A SWITH FOR US/EU/AU ETC.

U may want to ask the Apple guy again, if u told him MODULATOR, he gave u info for another kind of product.

Zedd, you are right that ... a radio frequency was a radio frequency no matter where in the world you are. But the way frequencies are used -- the modulation structure -- varies from country to country. Oz FM is pretty much the same as US FM, but the "fine tuning" will make it sound weird. (IIRC, Oz pre-emphasis is different than US.)
