I currently have an 04 Sebring with a Kenwood HU, and have been trying to figure out how to go about being able to play my iPod in my car. I was wondering if this scenario is really as easy as it sounds, and whether or not it will work, because after reading through a lot of the stuff on the forums, I honestly don't know. If I was interested in ditching the Kenwood HU for something with a front AUX input (Sony, for example), would all I need is to have the Sony HU installed, and buy a mini-mini cable to connect from the AUX input to the headphone jack on my iPod? I could look into finding something like to keep my iPod charging, but would the method I just described work in terms of getting my iPod to play music thru my stereo.

I'm not even concerned about being able to operate the iPod thru the stereo controls, as I feel that getting a holder for the iPod to place it within a reasonable distance on one of the vents would work just fine for navigation purposes.

Any help is appreciated.

Most any aux input should work, though I personally prefer aux in the back of the deck for a cleaner look.

I am by no means an expert on this topic, but I have done an awful lot of research on this stuff lately. If you have a headunit that lacks an AUX in, you can either do what you said and buy a new headunit that has this input, or you can try to find an auxiliary input adaptor for your Kenwood. I just Googled "Kenwood" and "auxiliary input adaptor" and a bunch of hits came up for the Kenwood CA-C1AUX adaptor, which apparently works with most Kenwoods made in 1999 or later (http://www.crutchfield.com/S-3DbBA5OpBmP/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?i=113CAC1AX). You can probably find it even cheaper on Amazon or Ebay.

Also, the AUX input doesn't have to be on the front of your HU. It is easier to hook up that way, but you can also run wires to an AUX input on the back of your unit. This is what you'd probably have to do if you purchase an AUX input adaptor.
