I just hooked an Ipod Nano up to a belkin car adapter that I got from apple and all of the sudden before I could get it off of the charger it was smoking and burnt up the inside of the ipod. Has anyone ever heard of this happening and is there anything I can do to recoop the damages?
thanks

if yer telling the truth then send the whole concoction to apple, and hopefully they will be able to tell the adapter is faulty and replace both items.

the nano worked perfectly fine before yesterday without any problems and I had just gotten the belkin fm transmitter, and I hooked the ipod up and both of them started smoking and both them have internal burn marks. That is the honest truth how everything happened. I've just never heard of this happening before.

That doesn't sound good at all. If I were you I'd contact Belkin and try to get them to pay you for the damage their product did to your iPod. I'm not sure if Apple will be able to help as it wasn't an Apple branded product. But then again, you did buy it from the Apple Store. If your iPod nano is still under warranty, you could try contacting Apple and see if they'll give you a new iPod nano.

I agree that this sounds like a problem that should be addressed to Belkin and not Apple. What it could come down to is what the literature that Belkin provides you with says. There may be contractual language limiting their liability to replacing the Belkin unit itself, and disclaiming any responsibility for the iPod. If they do that, get on the phone with a manager and raise bloody hell. Threaten small claims court and reporting them to the better business bureau.

And I have actually been reading up on the Belkin Auto Kit alot lately because I'm planning on buying one myself. So far this is the first negative comment that I have seen about it. Sounds like you just got a lemon. Sorry to hear it, and good luck.
