I am looking at the USA SPEC iPod Interface and have a quick question about installation. I have a '99 Ford Taurus (Sedan) with the factory stereo. To install this gadget, will I be plugging it into the back of my car somewhere (I have heard that the CD changer on late 90s Fords plugs in somewhere in the trunk), or will all the wiring and stuff be up in the front of the car? I ask because I don't feel comfortable having to run a wire from the back of my car to the front of my car.

I'm basically just looking for the cheapest and easiest way to listen to my iPod in the car. I'm also considering some sort of solution that would give me a line-in input, such as a new CD deck with an aux in, but I would be concerned about theft (I park on the street in a not-fantastic neighborhood).

Typically in Ford vehicles you plug into a "harness jack" on the back of the stereo. Your owner's manual may tell you what stereo you've got, or a Ford dealer will know; or you can try to feel/see the jack on the back (p'bly white, with a bunch of pins in it); or look for "comp" or "shuffle" button on the stereo controls.

No offense to your Ford (I drive a 98 F150), but a new stereo may outlast the car ;-) And if its replacement is new or recent, there's p'bly going to be a much-better stereo already installed. If you've got a casette slot, an adapter can give you great sound. FM modulators or transmitters might also get you by (I don't like 'em, but lottsa folks do).
