Help

I just got a Kensington RDS FM Transmittier/Car Charger for my car, and I'm having trouble playing it. Everytime I plug it in to play all I get is the static from the station even though the ipod is showing that it is playing and the transmitter is on. I have the 3rd Generation ipod and I drive a mitsubishi eclipse. Is it a possibility that because of the car I have or the age of my ipod that my fm transmitter won't play?
Or am I doing something or not doing something that is causing it not to play?
I've played other brands of FM transmitters on my car with my ipod, so I can't see why there is a problem.
HELP!
