Unless you carry abrasive things in your pocket often than there should be no problem.

I carried mine around in my pocket all day yesterday because I forgot about it. Never noticed. No problem. Just don't take it out of your pocket.

The biggest problem you'll likely face is the prospect of getting it stolen. Don't turn your back on that iPod for a second!

What a strange question. Why the hesitation, other than the fear it'd be stolen? What's the point of keeping an iPod at home?

I will tell you, if you have a skin or a case, I wouldn't worry about it. Just today, I am a High School teacher by the way, we had a boy whose 5.5 30G video was broken because some boys started rough housing and hit him. Sounds harmless, but he hit the wall pretty good, iPod in pocket and the screen just busted. I felt so bad for him, but glad that it wasn't mine.

if your planning on listening to it, just wear a hoodie and run the cord up under your shirt and put your hood up or wait until lunch or if you have long hair just put your hair over the headphones

Take it if you want, but don't listen to it in class or during lunch when you should be socializing. Crazy kids.

No, do not bring your ipod to school. From the above run on sentence it is clear you need to pay attention in class instead of listening to music. However if you must bring your ipod, get a case for your ipod as the rear of the ipod will get scratched.

Do whatever you feel comfortable with. Just dont keep it in sight a lot or anything. I have a BSE on mine so I just keep it in my pocket and its fine. Have fun.

take it to school, i do, even though it's banned, but i have a case, i always put my iPod sack into it when im not using it. Carelessness with care
O yea and btw, if your listening to it in class
1.Make sure it can't be heard by other people
2.Make sure the teacher your teacher is cool one when your listening to it.
3.Don't listen to it when the teacher is adressing the class, if he/she asks you a question and you've been listening to your iPod all the time, you get in serious C***
4. Hide your headphones, so that when the teacher looks at you to see what you're doing he doesn't get envious of you cause he doesn't get enough pay to afford one - I recommend growing your hair for this one.

I gotta go with Toothpaste on this one.
Growing your hair long, wearing a hoodie?? Whatever happened to going to school and actually PAYING ATTENTION??
Oh, and DO NOT reply that you're too lazy to type correctly. You guys learned to type before you could write in cursive (IF they even DO that in school anymore) so that's not an excuse.

^^^No, cursive hasn't been in public schools in years. I'm so glad I was homeschooled.

You still pay attention when it's necessary and play music when your working, I find it keeps me focused on what I'm doing and not anything else surrounding me as there can be alot of distractions in class.
But that's for if you're at highschool

You are way too proud of an inferior method of child development, or maybe you are just annoying by nature.

I'll be able to post proof of its superiority (success in college, testing achievements), but you'll be hard pressed to find the opposite, but empty, mindless bluster needs no evidence, right? :D
I'd rather be annoying and smart, than old and stupid.

Let's stay on topic, folks, lest we have to close this thread...
For those who haven't been paying attention, the topic is whether one should bring their iPod to school, not a discussion on the relative merits of different approaches to education and child development.
This is a forum about iPods after all....

I don't bring my iPods to school not because of the danger of getting lost or stolen but because there isn't really that much time to listen to music during class time. Maybe I should start to bring my iPod though because Introduction to Business ends 15 minutes early every day. Our teacher ends the lesson early.
There are two losers who bring their iPods, the teachers don't really care at all. I see people texting (including me) and listening to music while school is in session.

I'm guessing many of you don't go to big, urban high schools. You are not allowed to bring iPods into the public schools in NYC, although people do it anyway. If they see it they confiscate it.
I attended a public high school in NY for one semester, Norman Thomas, which has almost 3,000 students (that was about five years ago). They took away iPods, cell phones...basically anything a teacher could see could be confiscated.

i only bring it to school to listen on the bus! it's too much stress for me to sneak listening to music while the teacher is talking. Haha, one time I did though. The teacher asked me to take my hood off. I took it off with the headphones, so they hid into my hood. Lucky I wasn't caught.
I usually manage my music in study halls too. When the teachers ask, I always say I'm copying data.

Keep it in your pocket, ALWAYS. Unless you go to gym or something, then put it in the deepest pocket of your backpack and LOCK your bag. You can't trust other teens, they think about the consequences of things a lot less than adults.
**Don't think im like discriminatory to teenagers, because I am one. (14 years old in May)
I listened to my iPod in class once, I pretended to be depressed and I hid myself behind a textbook while I watched "Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle"...I was laughing to hard that I masked my laughter for crying.

I used to bring it. I stopped because people were wanting to play with it. And I wouldn't DARE listen in class. It's WAY to risky.

I learned to type just in 1st year (i dont know what you call it in america or were ever your from (here in ireland its 1st year) befor that in primary school we had computers never used them im in 3rd year now and we dont get computer class's anymore due to our Junior Cert (GCSE's I belive english people call them ?) and we had cursive class's in 3rd class in primary school , And dont think this is long ago befor computers im only in 3rd year now,
To help ye understand
It is compulsary for a child to start school in Ireland at the age of 5
Age 5 - Baby Infants
- Junior Infants
-1st class
2nd class
3rd class
4th class
5th class
6th class
Now your about 13ish and going into secondary school
1st year
2nd year
3rd year (Junior Cert Year)
4th Year (Tranition Year - Non-compulsuary)
5th Year
6th Year (Leaving Cert)
Now you may go on to collage

Sorry if this is an older thread, but whatever.
I got my first iPod in 2005 and I was hesitant at first as to bringing it to school. It was a 1G Nano. Right around when they first came out. I was pretty much hiding it so people wouldn't see it. Those who did always wanted to play with it. I of course did not let them. HaHa. I didn't have a case for it either, so I put it in my case for my glasses. HaHa. Once I did get a case, I would put my iPod in my left pocket and everything else I had on me (i.e. keys, gum, change, phone) in the right pocket.
It's now 2008 and I have an 80GB Classic and I have been bringing it to school with me since I got back from break. I'm in grade 11 and I know who to watch out for in terms of stealing stuff. I'm still quite careful, but more leinient than I originally was. I use my iPod in class only after making sure it was ok with the teacher. Generally at the end of class, or when doing individual work is when I use it, and going to and from classes.
All in all though, it depends where you go to school. The school I go to has its fair share of theives, but I'm very careful and its never out of my sight. Know the environment before hand and then make a decision as to wether or not its worth risking your iPod.

Same here man. Always in my pocket. I can always feel where it is. I also leave my headphone cord dangling out of my pocket too. LoL. Just know the environment. It's all you can really do, aside from leaving your iPod at home. But what's the point of that? It wont come in handy on those 20 minute walks to and from school. HaHa.

Stop pointing out every little spelling mistake. A lot of people do not spell properly on forums, blogs or other things of the sort. I think you should bring it to school, stick the wire up your sleeve and rest your head on your sleeve, the headphone should be near the hand part.

Well most people in my school have iPods so theft isn't as big of an issue. However, as long as you don't take it out and leave it lying around, it shouldn't be a big deal.
Listening in class or during school hours in general (save for free periods) is kind of pointless...and plus, people'll think you're antisocial. :P

I have always brought my iPod to school, since when the first 20gb's came out back when I was in like 6th grade for PC, to my 4gb mini, to my Moto SLVR, (LOL) to my 80gb 5.5g and now my 16gb iPhone. I also always leave my 2g orange shuffle in my backpack just in case. I listen to it on the bus, in the halls, in class (with and without approval). From what I have seen, schools are more anal about cell phone usage than iPod usage.
I am currently a senior in high school in New Jersey. I have never had anything stolen from me. There was a kid who was stealing iPods and selling them, but he got his skull crushed in on the football field cause he owed some one money, hasn't been really any theft since LOL.
