My mom is running Windows XP on a dial up, she got a 2 gen. shuffle and itunes won't transfer music to her ipod. I know it's not the shuffle b/c it works on my pc at work. I've uninstalled and reinstalled itunes 4 times, along with using different USB ports and tried to restore the shuffle to it's orignial defaults. I beleive the problem to be somewhere in the pc, it's the only pc my mom has access to and need it to work. The rest of itunes works, it's just the actual transfering of the music files that it won't do. Does anyone have any suggestions. BTW I have talked to Apple 4 times and all I got was the error codes (50 and 1418) mean reinstall itunes (which doesn't help) and since it's not a apple pc they won't do anything else....though they did send her a new shuffle just in case but it does the same thing. Can someone help???

These are the error messages

Error 50
Error 1417/1418
"Cannot read write to disk" when trying to put songs on

Which apple says means reinstall itunes....which doesn't help!!

See if any of these troubleshooting solutions work:

In My Computer, right click your iPod, Format, FAT32, and tick quick format.

See Jack_Hammer's post here & see if his solution worked. http://forums.ipodhacks.com/showthread.php?t=6665

The ipod only shows up in the "mycomputer" area for 5 to 10 seconds before it disapears when itunes starts so it's hard to do anything before it disapears again. I read Jackhammers post and will try it when I get home. I hope it works because if not I haven't found anything else that is going to work and guess i'll have to return it. It's useless if i can't get any songs to load on it. Apple should really fix this before they put a product out.....everyone it seems with Windows xp is having issues.
