Hello to everybody. A nice new home for ipod user.<p>
My question is, when can we get the new Xplay? I'm expecting the tag editing function, I don't want to use the MMJB everytime I need to change my mp3 information. It will be great if I can edit the tags with Xplay, I can esaily do this when I find something wrong when I'm transferring songs. ;)

JUst my opinion -
I have used both Xplay andEphod. Ephod is WAY bette than XPlay - plus it is free.
Try Ephod and you WILL NOT go back to Xplay :)

I use Ephod before. Seems they don't support Japanese and Chinese characters? I'm not too sure. After I switch from MMJB to Ephod, all my Japanese and Chinese songs are missing. Only English songs left.:(
Any suggestion why this happen? Or can I use both Xplay and Ephod together?

NEVER switch to Ephod if your tag or filename is Chinese/Japanese. I tried it before and all my songs are missing just like you. The Ephod simply don't support DBCS characters.
You can use Xplay for transferring songs to iPod and use other freeware to edit the tags.

Yeah! That's what I'm doing now. I use Xplay to transfer songs to my ipod and MMJB to rip CD or edit tags. MMJB is good for tag editing; for transfer songs, it's really bad, very very slow!
Anyways, any good software besides MMJB for rip CD? I like something faster. Thanks.:D

Edison_is_on,
If you read traditional Chinese, you can visit here and get "Free Rip MP3". I use this one to rip the CD and it's not bad.

I like Xplay but don't think it's worth $30 in it's current form/capabilities...I don't want to mess around with Ephpod until you don't have to screw around with an external Mac Opener...
Anwhere I can get Xplay for a cheaper price than $30??

kamj12,
This Free RIP MP3 is to rip CD tracks to MP3 files, it's independent to Xplay. What do you mean by "works ok with Xplay"? I don't get it...
I think amazon had it for $25 and you'll always have to use XPlay, MacDrive, or MacOpener with Ephpod. :p

my bad, I thought it works along with x-play and allows you to edit tag within x-play or something.... may be not...
do you know what id3 tags software out there that supports traditional chinese? I did a search in download.com, and there's a bunch of software

Yes, I use MP3/Tag Studio for my Chinese ID3 tags. It works very well with Chinese characters, no problems at all!
Oops, I think we are out of original subject!!!

I think MMJB is good for tags editing. I don't want to use a stand alone editor. I use MMJB to rip CD and edit tags, all-in-one, very simple. Also can import my existed mp3 tracks for editing. If there don't have any other all-in-one like MMJB, I think I have to accept it's "not too fast" CD ripping speed.

Here is a thread from Xaply forum talking about this kind of problems.
http://forums.mediafour.com/showthread.php?threadid=2639&highlight=chinese
I am using traditional Chinese Win98SE, no problem at all except for some Chinese characters FILE NAME are still not accepted by Xplay. All ID3 tags are accepted by Xplay with Win98SE. I just need to changed the file names into English. (I use another freeware to change them at one shot, no problem.)

did you have to set your language default to chinese in the "regional and language option" under control panel? Because if that's the case, I'd have to ask the IT helpdesk to give me access to the window 2000 cd-rom. btw, my laptop is a company's laptop. go figure!!
now also, i'm trying out the xplay trial version. will this have any impacts too?!
many thanks for the help!

Trial version does the same jobs that released version does. It just has limited time for using.

Yes you have to do that for Windows 2000. That's the reason that your iPod can't display correct Chinese after transfered by Xplay. You can search on Xplay forum to get more help.

I'm running windows 2k pro and most of my music is CJK and I've never changed the regional settings. All I did was install the fonts by hitting a number of websites and then used WMP9 to change the song titles.

rumor has it that xplay will have substantially beefed up cjk support in a coming version. wouldnt that be sweet...? :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Yes, it would be nice to see the CJK in the XPlay music folder but I can live with the way it is now. All I really want is more speed in syncing.

I think XPlay is way better than ephmod. But then again, dont take my word. I am basing this on the screen shots I saw somewhere here in ipodlounge.com,,, The interface for XPlay looks much simpler and more user friendly. I've been using it for quite a while now.
You can purchase it (after your trial period is over) from www.ecost.com for $21.93.
Here's the direct link: http://www.ecost.com/ecost/shop/detail.asp?dpno=576374
cheers. :p

I'm currently using the newest version of XPlay pre-release. After selling my iBook I needed a way to modify, create move music off of and to my iPod, and this version of XPlay was manna from heaven. I actually like it better than iTunes v3.
Anyway, I have read bad things about ephpod in other posts, but no real negative posts regarding the new XPlay version (that lets you edit id3 tags).
It should be available now.
Kevin
PS...here is a post from a gent that experienced a pretty crappy problem with ephpod
Hmmm. I take it back about having experienced no problems with using ephpod. having used ephpod on one pc earlier today, then reconnected my ipod to musicmatch on another pc, i see that musicmatch now fails to see all the tunes on my ipod. they're there, its just that musicmatch ignores them.
