View the pic above. Better than a touch screen. Better than getting fingerprints and scratches on your screen. Looks widescreen-ish though. But idk. That would be kind of could. The screen would be bigger and all. I am not sure though. We will have to find out.

Not pretty at all.

it appears way too large in that picture, I'd say incorporate the nano wheel, keep the iPod the same length expand the screen with the extra space created with the smaller wheel and volia.

Exactly my thought. My Nano wheel works just as well, or better, than the giant one on my iPod. I would gladly opt a smaller wheel for a larger screen and same dimensions.

So, how is that so different than the Palm LifeDrive? It has both portrait and landsape modes, and the orientation of the D-pad changes as well.

The Palm LifeDrive isn't a foot long.

thats like the best idea ever right their. i mean, a navigational wheel has always been a symbol of the iPod and the nano wheels are just as easy to use so i think thats a good idea, if they put it like realy close to the bottom they'd have lots of extra room.

Touch Screen wheel would have the advantage of much, much larger screen on the same size device. For that advantage (huge, imho), one can let go of fingerprint-ichiness, and tolerate a bit of smudge here and there.
Why waste valuable device surface!
And, once you move the wheel on screen, you can have screens after screens of new functionalities with the wheel. One such function (nothing to sneeze at) is text entry a la:
www.exideas.com or better yet see their simulator at:

You can actually TYPE full text on this nano simulator (ttp://www.exideas.com/ME/DeviceSimulators/ipodTouch.html)!
