New to IPOD and want to transfer MP3's

Hello I just received an Ipod 30GB for Xmas and I was wondering if I can just hook up the IPOD via USB and drag my MP3's on there without using the Itune software. If so, which directory on my IPOD do I need to put my MP3's in so I will be able to play them. Thank you so much.:D

No you can't you have to use something like iTunes because the iPod has an internal database of songs that needs to be written to. Something like Winamp with ml_pod plugin or Ephpod. Will work of course so will iTunes.
