I was listening to it through the Ipod speakers radio. I changed a song, and it suddenly stopped. The screen just stayed there, with no buttons moving, nor any changed when hooked up to something. Why did that happen? How can i prevent it? And how do I fix it?

Reset it by holding the center and menu buttons till it restarts. The files on the iPod will not be erased.
iPods are just little computers, sometimes they just randomly lock up for no reason. If it happens on a regular basis, it may be a corrupt song or video. Just like a computer, the software running the iPod may need to be restored as well. Restoring the iPod from iTunes will re-install the software restoring it back to factory settings but does delete all the files on the iPod.
