hey fellas,

my friend let me borrow his iPod so that I could take the songs he has on his, and put them onto my iPod.
I'm scared to plug his iPod in, because i'm worried that it will either overwrite all the songs on his iPod with my songs, or replace my songs with his.

So in other words:

I have 2 iPods, with different libraries on them, and i want to combine both.
Is this possible?

cheers.

This is an honest forum, we don't discuss sharing music, which is illegal. Guess u have to figure it out on you own.

Wait, what?
I'm quite aware that i'm not doing anything illegal... Am I?
he's my friend, it's absolutely no different than burning CDs...
if this is somehow illegal, please tell me, but i don't think i am.

Sorry to double post, but in fact,
there is a sticky that is right on the edge of what i'm asking for, i beleive. (how to copy songs from your iPod to your hard drive)
I'm still confused as to why this is "illegal" could you (bobb) or someone else please clarify? because i'm planning on calling apple if I can't get an answer here, and i'd rather avoid the awkward moment with the apple rep, :]

cheers.

sorry for the TRIPPLE post, but I always need to feel I was right. It's indeed not illegal. It doesn't say anything about someone ELSE'S iPod, but c'mon. :]

From the Apple help site;

"If one person wants to use multiple iPods on a computer, or you don't want to create multiple user accounts to support multiple iPods, you can set iTunes to update each iPod with only certain playlists. This way, you can put all your music on, say, your iPod photo and keep just your workout music on your iPod mini. Here's how to do this:

1. First, create a new iTunes playlist for each iPod that contains all the music that you want to send to that particular iPod. Learn more about how to create playlists here.
2. Then configure the iPod Options in iTunes so that each iPod gets updated with only your selected playlists. Learn more about how to send certain playlists to different iPods here.

Note: iTunes for Windows does not support having multiple iPods "

Burning CDs for your friends is illegal, too. There are posts on this very site that tell you how to get music off an iPod and onto your computer, but be informed that what you are doing may, in fact, be in violation of federal copyright law. It's only considered "Fair Use" to make copies for your own personal use. Once you start distributing things (even to your friends), you're crossing the line.

It's not the transferring of the songs off the iPod onto the computer that's against the law, it's the fact that you didn't pay for those songs.

Oh, thanks for clearing that up and not just leaving me in the dust.
I truly had no idea..
But common, how many people burn music for their buddies? I'm sure 75% of people on this forum do.
I did see the other threads by the way.
And in the end, I just tried it, and it turns out that i can't do it anyway, his iPod is formatted for a Mac. Thanks all! Expecially you, BWH, I truly had to idea.

If they do, I'm sure they wouldn't admit it in a public forum like this. That's just asking for trouble. We don't discuss the stealing of music here, even when it's called "sharing" or "borrowing".
