I will explain what happened in the following paragraphs cause this is what I think led to my problem.

When I had my iPod I had no original problems. I uploaded my music fine. But then I decided to reformat my computer and I couldn't wait to get my iPod back home to format it cause I thought it would be fine. So I went ahead to reformat my computer without formatting iPod back to factory use.

Then when I installed all my original junk. I installed the iTunes cd that I got with the iPod. Of course the libraries didn't match so I had to upgrade. It still wouldnt recognize my iPod on itunes. Then I was playing with the connection like I'll do a hard restart with the iPod while itunes tries to connect with ipod. It worked it started uploading. But the problem is. Everytime I plug my ipod to my computer. Itunes comes up and uploads any music/video as it pleases if it has been added. But after that it says "iPod is ok" My ipod appears on the iTunes. So when I hit Restore to factory seal. My iPod isn't connected anymore, it says "iPod isn't connected"

And this past weekend. I reformatted my computer from windows xp 64 bit edition to sp2. Before during the first 2 times the iPod was with my computer was with the 64bit edition but that doesn't matter. All I want to do is have my iPod restore to its factory settings?

I think my problem is when I first had iTunes I upgraded it once and every day it would ask me do you want to upgrade I guess to 7.01 or something like that. I said no. Then when I reformatted my comp for the first time and put in my iPod. i guess I was using a different version of iTunes. Which probably screwed me over?

Any ideas on how to do a format to factory settings? The apple site doesn't help...

If your using a previous version of iTunes then use the Updater to restore the iPod (http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/ipodupdater20060628forwindows.html). Otherwise download and use iTunes 7 to restore the iPod.
