Got a new car with an aux port. Got a cable, hooked up the nano, but the system makes a tapping, chattering sound (rather like what you might hear when a leaf is stuck on a belt.) It's not there when we switch to the radio. If I leave the cable plugged in but take off the nano, then touch the tip of the metal jack, it makes the noise. I've tried two different cables with the same result. Is this normal or is there a problem with the system that needs to be addressed? Are there any simple solutions? I was using an FM transmitter with my previous car, was looking forward to having the aux connection for better sound.

Try it again with the nano on battery power, not powered from the car.
Next thing to try is to plug in another audio source, like a cell phone, or your boombox, and if the prob persist then the radio is definitely faulty.

You may have a ground loop in your vehicle.

You're a genius! If I don't use the recharger, no noise. Now, since I no longer have an FM transmitter sucking juice and the nano has a long battery life, this isn't a huge problem. But is it something that can be fixed?

Would you mind explaining that to me? Is it something that can be remedied?
