when i go through the device detection thing to sync with audible with my 3g 10gb ipod it won't connect. ive tried both with the ipod off and with it in "do not disconnect" mode and it still says "error, device not detected" or something like that. Im new to audible.com, but everything else seems to be going smoothly
Same thing happened to me just earlier, and I was going crazy trying to figure out why. Turns out iTunes prevents Audible Manager from recognizing the iPod. Hope this explains things!

a variant on the question. my audible manager recognizes the ipod. however, if i unmount and later reconnect the ipod, ipod manager recognizes it, audbile manager recognizes it but i cannot transfer files to the ipod. this only happens after an unmount. only solution so far has been to re-boot.

Brickster, are you using iTunes AND AudibleManager?

no, using music match and audible manager. i got the magic combination that at least held my audible bookmarks and am too proud of that achievement to make any further changes.

Oh, I see.
Personally, I highly recommend switching to iTunes. It lets you manage your Audible files and music files from within one app. Its all just a lot cleaner, simpler, faster. ... better, faster, stronger...
But if you switch to iTunes, you will probably have to dump MMJB, or at least delete the iPod plug-in.

will think about switching. i use primarily for audible so that will take a one step process and turn it into two. the only advantage i think is that i can rename books. the disadvantages seem that itunes rips more slowly than music match and the two step process. any thoughts?

the extra step is as simple as clicking "Add folder" in iTunes after you download new Audible files. takes two seconds.
For me, that much less involved than trying to manage and transfer music and Audible files with two different programs.
If you end up swithcing, set your AudibleManager to No Device instead of iPod. It will launch faster and it won 't spend the extra time trying to find your iPod every time you plug it in.
The smartlist feature in iTunes is very handy also. You can make one to automatically include all Audible files. I have an "All Audible" smartilist so I can view only the Audible files.
Then I made an "iPod Audible" playlist and I just drag whatever Audible files I want into that playlist to sync to iPod.
if you end up switching, be sure to get iTunes 4.2 from apple website.

Well, Paranova, you certainly were right. I had my doubts about swithcing to itunes for the reasons stated above. It is sooo much better managing the IPOD than MMJB,including audible stuff. tnx. glad i switched.

Glad to hear that worked out.
I always just leave AudibleManager running in the system trary. (set on no device). That way you have instant access for downloading new files.
I've been iTunes for a couple months and I'm still discovering great new ways to use it to make managing my stuff easier via the smartlists and playlists.
