I upgraded from 6.0 to 7.0.2 based on my new 80G Video iPod. Now, iTunes attempts to analyze gapless playback then freezes within a few seconds. I read on apple forums about possible causes and I was able to turn podcasts off. Didn't help. I then tried another suggestion and set up a new user account. Didn't help. I have also turned off crossfading, turned off Zone Alarm, etc..
I completely uninstalled and then re-installed trying 7.0 & 7.0.1 and had the same problem. Finally, I re-installed 6.0; which works. However, I can't synch my new IPOD because it requires 7.0 or higher... I'm at a loss.
Running Windows XP Media Center w/ P4 3.0G processor & 1G RAM on Dell 8400
