View Full Version : Case which comes with new ipod..
Hi,
I remember people complaining about how the cases which came with the old ipods scratched the back.
I just got my new 15gb :), but am scared to use the case that comes with it...
Anyone know if these scratch the ipods?
cheers,

I have the 30 Gig model and have not had any problems. I'll be upgrading to a better case as soon as they come out.

Be careful with the tag inside the top of the case... it's been known to cause some scratches.
Other than that, just make sure there's no debris or hard particles inside the case when you slip the iPod in.

I've heard some horror stories about people's clips snapping off of the case. Have there been any design changes with the onces that come with the new 15 & 30 GB ones?
BTW, I always make sure that my iPod has its metal side facing the tag. I haven't gotten any scratches on it (yet!)

I dont like that case, it did not scratch my iPod but it just seems like junk. I will buy a better case as soon as some are available for the new models.

My new 15 gigger got scratched with the apple case...
This is the white part that I'm talking about.
I was *NOT* happy...
Currently I'm using the sportsuit (which surprisingly fits) till new "real" cases come out. :)

If the included case works for you, keep it. It works fine for me and I don't plan on buying another one. In terms of it scratching iPods, it was because of the Apple tag. If you are worried, tape down the tag. Also you could wrap in in saran wrap (the iPod).
Personally after a month it left 1 major scratch and one minor scratch on the display of my iPod. This was a worry. I think it was due to the tag aswell.
I would recommend getting a different case if you like to fiddle around with your iPod. I always pulled it out to change songs (as I don't use the remote) and play with. They should have made a case which allowed greater access to the iPod.

I agree with Jester. I've got a 30gb iPod and haven't had an issue with using the new case, but as soon as Vaja makes a case for the new pod I'm getting one. Vaja's are pricey, but I think they're outstanding.
cheers,
ill just cut off the tag for now or stick it down or something.. and then get a vaja case :)

meme, i actually just put my finger in an pull the tag up when i put my ipod in the apple case, so it sticks out (it actually looks kinda funky). i've also bent the top back of the case back a bit, so it's easier to slip in.
i have a small "buff" type scrach on my ipod back from before i figured that out, but since then it hasn't been a problem

Funny you should mention the Vaja case. That is the one that I will be getting. I've got one for my Tungsten Palm and love it. The case provides excellent protection and looks good.

Speaking of the belt clip, does anyone know an easy way of removing the clip? I like just sticking my iPod in my pocket, and the belt clip makes it kind of uncomfrotable. I'll probably be getting a new case too, but I've got to wait for some reviews.

its relatively easy, just pull steadily, not really fast and the belt clip should pop off, leaving u with a cover that fits nicely in your pocket :)

I like the Apple case; I only have tiny scratches on the back of my iPod from the tag, but none whatsoever on the screen or white part (the important part)

All I know is that I bought the new 4g 40g Ipod the weekend they came out and it took so long for other co. to make cases I used the Apple one. Now 2 months later its scratched beyond belief. Very disappointed. DO NOT USE THAT CASE!!!!!! http://homepage.mac.com/luxlamf/Scratched/PhotoAlbum11.html
