problem deleting ipod shuffle songs

Help i just got the girlfriend a ipod shuffle for xmas,i have a problem as when its auto filled the shuffle with music i try to delete them and when it goes to delete the songs it just hangs then comes up with a error/

any ideas?ive even tried restoring it to the factory default settings...
