I have been scouring these forums (and many others) since buying a 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser last March, looking for a way to hook up an iPod – with no luck – until this week! I got the adapter installed yesterday and it’s perfect. I can now die a happy guy.
The adapter is from Neo Audio; it is called the Neo ProLink iPod Adapter, and is around $150. It comes in two models for Chryslers. One for audio systems with external options like satellite radio, external CD changers, or RSE/DVD players. And another model for systems without external options.
The adapter is made up of three main parts, the Neo ProLink (a black box with two AUX outputs and all the code), a Chrysler CAN cable (connecting the ProLink to Chrysler’s CAN bus system using a 10pin piggyback cable that installs between the vehicle’s external option and the audio system), and finally a small source selector box (allowing you to switch between the external option, your iPod, and the two additional AUX inputs on the ProLink). The iPod control remains on the iPod (which I prefer), and does not get controlled by the radio. The audio system does not show the iPod link on its display. The adapter also charges your iPod.
Not being mechanically inclined, I had a mobile installer come out and put it in. It took him about two hours.
I have a 2006 PT Cruiser with the Boston Acoustics Audio system. This system comes with satellite radio, and an in-dash 6 disc CD changer. It runs on the infinitely stupid CAN bus system Chrysler invented to further tank their sales and have most anyone wanting to install aftermarket equipment cursing at them and swearing off buying anything from Chrysler in the future.
I wanted to post this information for anyone with a 2006/2007 Chrysler who has been as frustrated as I have been with the lack of iPod options. And as a lurker for a few years, I want to thank everyone on this forum for all their help in the past.
