Wow, the updated shuffle restore software really works! My shuffle came back from months of hibernation after running the new utility. Anyone know what's behind this new update? I'm just glad that by some stroke of luck I haven't tossed the thing in the garbage by now, as that was all I thought it was good for anymore. It would be interesting to see what the engineers found recently that allowed them to push this update out.

Same here - Shuffle restored to 100% working from previously dead 'LED blink of death' state.

It's a pity my mate sold his on eBay for spares... ;-(

I was about to chuck mine too having tried repeatedly to fix it... I'd replaced it with a Samsung YP-U2 (sounds better, simple drag 'n' drop, no iTunes BUT some awful little buttons)...

My shuffle sat in the drawer for six months but I managed to fix it yesterday! Unfortunately the Restore function didn't work for mine, but the following did...

- Go into Device Manager (right click on My Compuer, select Manage, then click on Device Manager)

- Find the ipod (easiest way is to go to the View menu and select 'Devices by connection', then you will be able to find the ipod by opening up the USB.)

- Right click on the ipod and select properties

- Click on the policies tab, and make sure the 'Optimize for performance' is selected. Click OK.

- then unplug the ipod and plug it into a different usb port.

Just thought I'd share in case it helps anyone else!
