"... and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." Here's a screen-capture shot:

I get this message every single time I plug in my new iPod nano. This is my first iPod to own and I don't know if it's a problem with the iPod or the computer I am using. Here's a quick rundown:

12/19/06 - I received the [new-in-box] iPod and opened it; fiddled around with it, etc. but did nothing regarding connecting it to my computer.

12/20/06 - I fully charged the iPod and downloaded and installed iTunes. After my iPod was fully charged, I connected it to my computer and got the error message as outlined above. Because of this, my iPod does not show up in the iTunes source pane. However, it did show up under "My Computer" as "IPOD" being drive G: on my computer.

I Googled possible solutions (including this sticky (http://forums.ilounge.com/showthread.php?t=168439) included in this forum) and nothing has worked.

Somewhere amidst my efforts to fix the problem, my iPod lost its format and standard display; using, now, lower-quality graphics (looks like standard 2-bit B&W) giving me the message to use iTunes to restore. Obviously I can't use iTunes to restore because iTunes does not recognize my iPod due to the damn error message that pops up each time I connect it. So now, each time I turn it on, I get the "Use iTunes to restore" screen on my iPod.

12/21/06 - I attempted to turn on my iPod just prior to posting this message and all I got was a blinking low-battery icon (w/o any backlight.) Although I powered off my iPod after each instance of turning it on, it apparently did nothing because the battery was drained. So I am charging my iPod whilst typing this message (with it still giving me the "iPodService Module has encountered a problem ..." error message.)

Any help? I'm all ears. Thanks.

Well I solved it (but others with the same problem may not wish to go this route.) My computer was having problems anyway with the registry, optical drives, etc., so as a panacea, I just reformatted the hard drive and reinstalled Windows. Voila! The computer is "brand-new" without any issues and everything works just fine (including iTunes/iPod).

Yep this isn't an iPod issue. this is a windows issue. Reformatting is probably the best option, like the other person did.
