I am planning to buy Newer Tech's TrafficJamz or Griffin iTrip Auto for road trip. I do have aux-in in my car and normally I use that to listen to iPod (plug it in the headphone jack of ipod).

If I buy one of the above FM trasmitter can I use that to just charge iPod and use aux-in to listen to ipod in my car ? The reason I need FM tranmitter and charger is because I might be travelling in my friend's car during christmas and he does not have aux-in in his car. So at that time I can use FM transmitter to listen to iPod.

I do not want to buy two separate things like just car charger and just FM trasmitter when I travel with my friend. can anyone confirm this if they have one of the above product ?

Thanks.

The iTrip doesn't have a charger; it gets its power from the iPod. The TrafficJamz has a charger, which connects to the dock port (that's also where it gets the sound to send to the transmitter). But, you can still use the headphone jack even with something plugged into the dock.

One potential problem is the width of the TrafficJamz -- take a good look at it and make sure it'll clear the dashboard/console area around the power socket.

(It really can't hurt to get a car charger. Keeping the battery topped up while playing in your car will help battery life. And if your bud has a cassette player, you can tap into that with a $10 adapter.)

"iTrip Auto" is a newer version of iTrip which does charging in car too.

Thanks for pointing out to notice extra width of trafficjamz. I thought specs on newer tech website will have dimension of that part , but I am out of luck there. will try to find it out from drawing i guess....
