Ok, so i got my Red 4GB IPOD nano through the post today from Apple, and it all seemed to be going well. I wondered why there wasn't a CD But i noticed in the little book it said to download Itunes. So i Did, and installed it. Then this is where thigns went wrong. It says then to attach your iPod to the compuyter and follow the oncreen instructions. Well when I attatched mine, all i got was the "Found New Hardware" Wizard. So i went through that, and said connect to internet to find drivers, but it kept saying it couldnt find them and that the Ipod hadn ot been installed correctly. I've tried every possible combination now, and must have reinstalled my ipod and itunes 7 times now.
Does anyone know what to do?

Welcome to the lounge!
Don't let Windows search for drivers. iPod doesn't need any. Just load up iTunes and it should work from there.
Also, if the problem still persists, list the stats of your machine (OS, processor, RAM, HD space, age, etc. Anything you think is of importance, please list it so we can aide you in solving your problem).

So you don't even need to install anything extra for the Ipod? Ok so now im on Itunes, how exactly do i copy a song onto my ipod? Because atm my Ipod isn't even recognized in My Computer area, hence the reason i thought you needed to install some sort of drivers for the Ipod?
Windows XP
Intel Pentium 4
1GB ram
160GB hardrive
9 months old computer.

Apple's philosophy is to not need drivers upon installation.
Perform a soft restore on the iPod by holding down Menu and Select for a few seconds until the Apple logo comes up. Then, plug the iPod back into your computer. iTunes should pick it up right away. If not, try a different USB port.

Yeah, it does recognize it, as the install new hardware thing comes up and says ipod, but wants me to install drivers else it says it isn't correctly working. It makes the noise that the computer has recognized it, and it had, but i check my computer and there is no extra device there. I have tried it on all USB ports, are you sure there is nothing i need to install, else why would the "found new hardware" wizard come up?

Does it show up on iTunes? Tell Windows to not check for drivers, or just let it finish itself and just click close. You should be able to bypass this.

I click cancel when the Found new hardware wizard comes up, but when i do it says "Not installed correctly" and when i go to "Device managers" it says that the ipod is installed incorrectly and has abig question mark over it. This is getting so annoying. Andn o, I dont think Itunes does recognise it as i have plugged it in and out many times while having itunes open and nothing different has happened, eventhough it makes the noise that something has been plugged in on my computer.

Just a question, is there something else your meant to downlaod with Utunes, becasue when i installed itunes, it made no mention about an ipod at all and i though it was meant to? Can someone give me an exact link to where i need to download all the stuff needed for my ipod as it didnt come with a cd which is stupid of apple.

Nobody seemed to reply to my other thread now and I'm literally tearing my hear out. I was wondering if someone could give me an indepth waljtrhough of how to get my nano working which is a 2nd gen one without the cd.
So far I;ve downloaded the Itunes and installed it, and now have connected the Ipod. It says in my book that I should get a "Setup Assisant". Whats that? I dont think i get one of them, all I seem to get is "Found new hardware" Wizard, which even if I follow trying to find drivrs, it says it cant find them?
Is my ipod faulty? Because the hardware wizard does recognize it as an Ipod, its just i cant seem to install it?

Don't cross nor double post in the forums. Here is Apple support link:
http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/
iPod missing in "My Computer" or in iTunes on Windows (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61711)
Open iTunes and you should see the iPod show up in the source list in iTunes. Do you see it when you open iTunes?

Nope. Still no sign of my Ipod on my computer or in Itunes. My i go to the device manager it is still saying it has installed incorrectly and is flagged yellow. This is really annoying now. I have even renistalled windows totally and im still getting this problem. All I get when i plug in my Ipod is @Found New Hardware@ Wizard. What is meant to happen when i plug in my ipod for the first time?

Sorry for the delayed response as it was getting close to 3 AM on my end.
When you plug in your iPod for the first time, iTunes is supposed to pop up and it'll walk you through to naming your iPod, syncing options, etc.
On that note, I use Windows as well, and I have never experienced the Install drivers... window causing any problems, with either of the 4 iPods I installed.

The only other thing i have which is like it is my digital camera. As i completely reformatted and reinstalled windows xp lat night, i dont have much on my computer. But ive just plugged my cam in now, and the "found new hardware" wizard has come up naming it as viivcam and the same thing happenw with ipod, except it does install as i have the CD? Also, when i plugged my cam in, before installing it, it is recognized as "Other" in My Computer and called a "Sharing Folder".
See, when i plug my ipod in, nothing even comes up in my compute or itunes, all i get is "Found New Hardware" wizard. Are you sure i shudnt have some sort of Cd or something?

Do you think a CD would fit in that box? Apple figures that all you need to do is download iTunes from their website.
I've never heard of this causing a problem. The usual procedure is just to plug in the iPod after installing iTunes, iTunes recognizing the iPod and then smooth sailing from there. See if there's a preference that keeps the Found New Hardware wizard from popping up and causing mayhem.
