Hi everyone,

I'm going to buy a GIII 30g and am just wondering if it will work correctly when daisy-chained through one or more powered external fw hard drives / cd writers? I'm sure it won't be a problem, but I have all my music on an external drive cuz my 20gb PowerBook drive can't handle them all any more and will definitely want to keep a backup of all my music on my computer anyway :)

Thanks...

Ooo, first (of many I hope) post!

The iPod will work through a firewire hub (I used a hub for over a year), but I don't know about daisy-chains. I seem to recall some users expressing frustration with daisy-chained firewire.

Hi,

i keep all of my music on an external firewire HD and have no problems daisy chaining the Ipod through the firewire HD. The port powers both with no problems.

Hope this helps

Yes, same here.

I have an iBook with only one FW port, and I have all my MP3 & AAC files on an external FW HDD. I can successfully daisy-chain both my old Gen1 iPod (original model 10 GB w/ scrollwheel) and my new Gen 3 iPod (30 GB) off of the second FW port from my Acomdata external FW HDD. Data transfers and recharging work great.

Back before OS 10.2, I had some sporadic problems doing this (search the old forums (http://www.xsorbit1.com/users/dennx/index.cgi?board=&action=search) if you are interested in details) on 10.1 and had to use a FW hub. But, since upgrading to Jaguar, I have had zero problems daisy-chaining.
