Hi, I was planning on getting my boyfriend some new headphones this Christmas. He's got an 80gb iPod and has always been going on about how good the Sennheiser PX100 headphones were. So, this afternoon, I went on the Apple website to buy them. But while I was looking, I came accross the AKG K27i headphones. Its high ratings and very positive reviews really attracted me to them... A few people have even stated they were better than the Sennheiser PX200 headphones!

Anyway, I was just wondering whether anyone could help me make a decision on whether I should just get him a pair of Sennheiser PX100 (http://store.apple.com/Apple/WebObjects/ukstore.woa/61034042/wa/PSLID?mco=16A7CD25&nplm=TD754&wosid=Uy1Ys7yRQheq2FTOXLN1N2GxxIF) or if I should go for the AKG K27i (http://store.apple.com/Apple/WebObjects/ukstore.woa/61034042/wo/Uy1Ys7yRQheq2FTOXLN1N2GxxIF/4.0.0.21.1.0.8.11.33.0.0.1.1.0.9.1.1.0.1#rev) ones? What are your opinions on both?

Thanks in advance :)
Trish

The Sennheisers are the way to go, having one of the best sounds around for their price - in fact they are something of a classic in portable headphones (along with the Koss Portapros and KSC75s). The AKGs are just OK, being far too bassy in an uncontrolled sort of way. The Senns by contrast are still a fairly dark sounding phone, but are much more accurate than the AKGs, and in the end more enjoyable.

Of the 3 you mention I would say go for them in the order PX100, then AKG27i, then PX200 (which to my ears is a bad, gutless and muddy sounding phone that is nowhere near as good as the slightly cheaper PX100). In short give your boyfriend what he wants and you will have done the right thing!
