I have the Sennheiser HD-212 headphone that I got for about $40 a couple years ago and they have a pretty good sound for the price, but I can only wear them for about 20 minutes because they start to hurt like hell. My head is pretty big, which is probably part of the problem.

A year or two ago I picked up some Shure E2C earphones and they sound great, but they don't stay in very long for me. It took awhile for me to get use to in-ear earphones, but overall I'm really impressed with them. I'm looking to replace the E2C's with better, earphones with greater bass response for under $400. I mainly into hip hop and I need to feel that bass. I'm also into some hard rock and metal like Godsmack.

I have my eye on the UE 5EB's. Would you guys recommend the 5EB's for being the best earphones for a bass head under $400?

I also want to replace the HD-12's with more comfortable headphones with really good bass response. These would be for around the house, so I can sacrifice style. I'm looking at the Grado SR80's, but how is the bass response and comfort? Would I be disappointed? What headphones would you guys, recommend?

SuperFi 5EBs and Bass Freqs are probably the most bass heavy phones you'll find. Both will be more comfortable than the E2 and will 'stay in' better.

Thanks man. How are the Grado SR80s for comfort and bass response?

I'm the wrong person to ask about over-the-ear cans. I don't really use them much, I don't like them, and I simply don't have enough experience of the alternatives.

The Grado SR60 always seem to get good reviews - don't know if they will be bassy enough for your needs.

This is tough because the Super.Fi 5 EB's are not that comfortable. They will most definitely give you all of the bass you need, but comfort isn't so hot. Perhaps the E4C might be worth checking out (the E3C has very little bass response).

As for headphones you can check into the Darth Beyer DT770's, as they will probably have the bass you are looking for.

I just picked up a pair JBL Reference 220 and have been pleasantly surprised. They have significantly more bass than the sony 71 and 81's and apple in-ear. I by no means have as much experience as Jackonicko with headphones, but I was also surprised with the lack of feedback on the JBL's on this board, at 80.00 they are worth a try. The UE5's and E4's will set you back more than that.

Go for the Beyerdynamic 770/80 headphone. Its really bassy. If you buy off the internet make sure its the 80ohm version. The 250 ohm one is too hard to drive.

I always pimp these but Skullcandy hesh are the best for rap, hands down. The bass is mind blowing, and is better than being in a car with it turned up. It also sounds good for just about any other genre of music as well. The best part: They cost about $50 and the higher models might be even better. There number one goal for skullcandy is bass, that's why they call them "skullcrushers for bass"
