Low volume output

I just picked up a 20 gig iPod, and im fairly displeased with the volume output. I have to listen to it at max volume to drive anything other than the Apple earbuds. Even at full, its still barely adequate.

Ive got some Koss Sportas and KSC55s, which barely get loud enough to drown out wind noise in a car. The iPod easily has the lowest headphone output of any mobile audio device ive ever heard.

Is this normal? I got mine from Amazon a couple days ago, in the USA. Every post ive seen about low output has been related to the European volume cap.

Yeah, it's normal. Mine's always at max volume.

try normalizing your mp3?s to a higher level.
