I keep the iPod headphones in my jacket for times when I may want headphones but didn't plan on it. I use the cable wrapping trick shown here:

I'd like a small little case to put these in. I know there are a couple commercial solutions but I'm more interested in what kind of D-I-Y ideas people have come up with. I'm thinking along the lines of a small, flat tin - smaller than an altoids container.

how about a small change purse? I have the Etymotic earphones that come with a small pouch and it works well. (although the pouch is admittedly larger than an altoids container, it's not cumbersome.)

I just bought an assorted pack from them. Then I just realized a section of the cable sleeving on my earbuds is cut off.

Sony EX90s come with a superb structured leather purse, with a slide out cable manager, while UE's SuperFi 5EB and pro come with a nice metal box (which is available separately as a spare part), and Panasonic supply the HJE70 with a low profile titanium box.

These are the best things I've found, especially the EX90 leather box. Having broken two EX90s I have two spare boxes, and I use one for my new Vibes and one for ATH CK7s.

and it should be pointed out that Sendstation (one of those really great small companies I just love, and really want to succeed) make a great little zip up pouch for buds of all kinds.

Hey all - thanks for the input. One thing I'm trying out right now is a small tin from Starbucks normally containing their after coffee gum. It's narrow, small and taller than it is wide, with a flip top opening. The size is smaller than a regular altoids tin, about perfect for packing in a wrapped up set of iPod earbuds and keeping in your pocket without being noticeable. I'll see how this works out - while the size is right the small opening might not be as usable as a flatter tin (as is used for after coffee mints) that has a larger opening.

Threw out the gum right away, incidentally - it has a terrible incense like taste to it :)

I use the plastic accessories clear case. I have both large and small ones I find great for earbuds especially since I have serveral pairs. Some case manufacturers were giving out an accessories case with certain cases when you ordered.
