Anyone try this "PQ DVD" for ripping and encoding? I tried the stuff that comes with Roxio EMC9 and thought it was ok but not great. This PQ DVD thing claims one-click rip and encode, and 640x480 support.
I'm tempted to take one for the team if noone has seen it before, but wanted to see what the peanut gallery had to say.
Oh and it's at http://www.pqdvd.com/dvd-to-ipod-video-converter.html if anyone wanted to peek. Apparently they do encoders for PSP and other hardware, as well.

If you use the search feature you will find the threads in which people posted that are using this software and check the guide stickied at the top of the forum as well.

The search function here kicks out the term "pq" and returns no results if you try "pq dvd" in quotes (if you try pq dvd without quotes it only searches on dvd).
But yes, using pqdvd got some hits.

PQ search in this forum only: http://forums.ilounge.com/search.php?searchid=306439
Some people like it and haven't seen a lot of complaints about the software. I personally don't use it since I have Nero 7 and have been able to customize it for 640x480 on my PC. I use both PC & Mac. The Mac software updated much sooner. PQ just recently updated their software to accommodate the new settings. I don't think you will be disappointed with purchasing PQ. I do like Nero better but it does cost more.

I grabbed the latest version of PQ and it seems to work quite well, so one big plus. I tried a sample at h264, 640x480, 1500kbps, 30fps and it looked great. However, I also tried one at the default h264, 320x240, 700kbps, 30fps and at least on the ipod itself the image quality looked the same.
So does encoding at 640x480 make a difference for anyone else here, unless you're going to be showing it on a TV? I'm curious if it's just my crappy eyesight or if I'm missing some hidden advantage to the bigger size and all that.
And thanks for your input, Audrey. :)

I use PQDVD and have been pleased with it.
It does a nice easy conversion from DVD in a single process which is reasonably quick.
I have not used the higher resolution as I only watch stuff on my iPod.
But might try the higher resolution to see what its like when played through a TV.

I just used it today for the first time but when I viewed the film on my pod it was quite pixellated. Havn't had a chance to play with it much yet, anyone any idea what is causing the pixelation?...also the file size was 1.6gb. I'm at work now so cant remember the settings I chose...think it was 640x480 30fps.

I haven't use PQ, but I do notice a difference on my iPod between 640x480 and 320x240.
(Actually, I usually end up using 640x360 for DVD's labeled 'wide screen')
On a TV the difference is night and day. It's less noticable on my iPod, but is still noticable.
One thing though... I believe you get longer battery life watching 320x240 (or 320x180) on your iPod than you do using higher resolution.

Do you see pixelation break-up on your dvd at all?...not sure what caused this?
