I was wonderring what the best settings were for copying a DVD. Seeing as iTunes movies have a resolution of 640x480 and are encoded at 1.5 Mbps (correct me if I'm wrong) if I copied a movie with its original resolution I'd need a higher bitrate. I want the movie to look exactely the same (or as close a possible). And would 2-pass encoding be recommended and does it make any difference in picture quality? I'm using Handbrake on Mac OS X if anyone was wonderring.

I am not sure about Handbrake, but normally, a 2-pass system would improve quality when it comes to visible pixelation. Additionally, if you are going to use the mpeg-4 AVC (h.264) video format, the maximum video bitrate you cam pick is 1.5Mbps.

1.5Mbps mpeg-4 AVC videos are pretty much considered to be near DVD quality and is the same quality as iTunes movie downloads. If you want the best quality, then encode to the standard mpeg-4 video format at 2.5Mbps. Although, you probably won't notice the difference between 1.5Mbps mpeg-4 AVC and 2.5Mbps standard mpeg-4 even when being played back on a TV.
