Yes i have purchased quite a lot of music from the i-tunes store, and would like to back them up to ccd,s. But as i have said i can,t see purchased items on my source list when i am logged on to i-tunes. I suppose i could do it by making playlists of all my bought music and then copy to cd, but this would take some time. It would be much easier to do this by clicking on purchased music. Thanks for your help.

You can make a smart playlist for protected AAC files. That will put all your purchased music into a playlist to burn a backup.

I'm not so sure you should be using iTunes "burn to disk" to be making backups with (Unless you have iTV7.+ which has a specific backup function)

I save my files to DVD data disks using Roxio 7. (not drag to disk) This is of course just a backup, not a playable disk (s).

Robert,
It is perfectly fine to use the iTunes Burn to Disc in any version, especially if you set the burn mode to Data CD/DVD. These will not be playable either.

You'll have to find the files that are organized either by iTunes (Artist/Album) or by you. Once you have the files then copy (don't move them) to your external hard drive.

Better yet, you can backup the entire My Music directory to your external hard drive. There are many ways to do it. One is done through the command prompt xcopy /s "C:\My Documents\<userid>\My Documents\My Music" Z:\Backup
Assuming Z: is your external drive, and you have a directory named Backup there. Replace <userid> with your login name.
