I have a 30gb video iPod. I am using it with a PC running Windows XP Pro and everything was working fine. I installed SP2 and I got a "Unrecognized USB Device" error. I uninstalled SP2 and the problem went away. Unfortunately I need SP2 installed in order for my sound card to work. Anyone know what is up with iPod and XP SP2? (btw, reinstalled SP2 and..yup..iPod is unrecognized again)

Microsoft has this listed in their knowledge base http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;893249 maybe it will help.

There was a link to contact microsoft.

I also found another potential solution, which is to uninstall a program named ContextPlus if it is on your system: http://www.experts-exchange.com/Operating_Systems/Q_21641885.html

I fixed my problem without using the hotifx. I ended up having a conflict between the iPod and a digital camera card reader that I had hooked up. It didn't even occur to me that this was the issue since this conlfict didn't show up w/o SP2.
