Error while synching - sync stops mid-way

Hi all. Every time I try to sync up my iPod (which has roughly 35+ gigs free) it fills up precisely 6.17 gigs and then gives me an Unknown Error. What can I do?

I'm running Windows XP - my iPod has a clickwheel, but no color screen or video.

I tried to restore it to factory defaults, but the same Error continues, plus now I've lost the Sleep option from my menu.

The cable is the first suspect. Verify the connections are good, try an alternate cable, try a different port.
