Does anyone know how you can directly convert 320kbps mp3 files ON THE IPOD (NOT IN THE LIBRARY) to 128kbps AAC..I'm trying to convert the larger files to smaller ones just to save space on the nano..I'll be getting the 8GB soon however for the meantime this is my only choice.

Its a real pain to find the large files on my nano, then having to convert them in the library, then having to go back to the nano delete the 320kbps mp3 file, then having to go back to the library and transfer over the 128kbps AAC file.

This can not be done as far as I know. You might be able to check in the scripting forum to find out if a script to help with this is available.

RealPlayer 10.5 for Windows will transcode from MP3 to AAC "on the fly".

As far as I know, you can't do that. Even if you can, its not advisable to do that directly on iPod. You might get it corrupted for all you know. To be on the safe side, do it on iTunes, and re-copy the songs again.
