With the latest software update for Nano and the previous update my Nano (2gb, 1st gen) has a real problem with audiobooks. With anything other than version 1.0 or 1.1 the Nano slows down when trying to change volume, change to the next cd, or even access the menu. To elaborate a bit with what I mean is I turn on the Nano and it will go to the book I was listening to, now if I try to turn it down or anything it takes the Nano sometimes as much as thirty seconds to respond. This does not happen on my 30gig Video only the Nano. As this is very annoying I reverted back to version 1.0 software and the Nano works wonderful. Has anyone else expericened this little bug? Some of my books were purchased from Itunes others are from the Library all are m4b files. I would like to keep the Nano up to date on it's software but not if it causes these pauses in it's operation.

I had the same problem and at first thought it was faulty (just got a replacement from my original) I restored back to v1.1 and all is fine but if I buy the Nike thing I need 1.2.
It is just like the thing freezes, audio plays but the time display doesn't increment, you can't pause , change volume etc for, me, about 15 seconds.
Has anyone else noticed this? btw, I use m4b files around an hour each

Thanks for the reply, I was starting to think it was just me. I actually took the Nano back to the Apple Store twice and both times they replaced the Nano.I can't find version 1.1 so I am using 1.0 from the install disc. When I rip Audiobook cd's I keep the file size small so I can get more books on. Again thanks for your reply.

I had never used v1.2 before because I hadn't the need to update - the Nano was working fine. When it was replaced it already had 1.2 on it - I didn't notice at first but playing the audiobook gee!! I almost took it back, I reset, didn't help - then I thought to restore but only had v1.0 and 1.1 . v1.1 works fine.
Strange no one else has mentioned it.

did you have this problem as well?
My Nano was straight from Apple and the other poster has had two exactly the same (both straight from Apple) - it shouldn't need a restore, should it.
