Restore and backup

Hey guys ..


Just recently I started having a lot of trouble with my ipod , I tried doing whatever I could find online to fix it , eventually a msg saying I should restore showed up on my ipod .
Now I couldnt get to the list of my songs or anything . Even on itunes without getting a msg saying I need to restore ..
Im just wondering if there is a way I could backup my songs since Im using a new laptop with no songs and my ipod has a few hundred songs ..
I hope there is a way I tried accessing the ipod from my computer and removable disk but I get a msg saying do u want to reformat ..
please help .. and if someone could clarify to me what caused this error

You can attempt to force the iPod into disk mode and see if that allows you to access the disk either manually or through a third party program to remove the songs from the iPod.

There is no telling exactly what happened on your iPod to cause the error, it could be anything, including, but not limited to: Dropping it, unplugging it to early, Adding and readding songs a lot -> defragmentation of the drive, etc.
