I'm planning on using an iPod away from my computer for a long period of time and upload photos into it while I'm at it. One thing I couldn't find (and this is possibly because I have horrible search skills) was a way to manually erase photos (or maybe even song files) off the iPod without having to use iTunes -- by this, straight off the iPod using the iPod's controls. Is it possible, and if so, how?

Welcome to iLounge.

Though there would be ways to enter into the iPods hidden files to erase songs and maybe even photo's, the deletion of songs would not reflect in the iPod database making the iPod think the song was still there, even if it wasn't.

In the case of photos, depending on the upload choice, the same may be for photos. if the photos get loaded simply to the hard drive, of the iPod, they could be easily removed.

Note that any deletion of stuff from the iPod at minimum requires a computer connection. You can not delete things without a computer.

If you set your iPod to manual update before you leave, you'll be able to access things via iTunes at any computer you come across on your travels.

A program like Yamipod allows you to control your music on a computer without iTunes.

Good luck,
Stuart
