i was wondering... if i had a 10 GB 2nd gen ipod and it somehow died before my 1 year was up, would apple replace it with a 3rd gen ipod??
and if so, would i have to send in my remote and headphones as well because of the new input?

If it "somehow died"?
Yeah....OK.
You may well find it being replaced with another G2 10gb'r.
Before this topic spirals into the "Whoops I broke my iPod" theme I should point out that this has been the subject of a thread on the old forum here (http://www.xsorbit1.com/users/dennx/index.cgi?board=feedback&action=display&num=1052389166&start=0) as well as on this forum.
Note iPodlounge cannot and will not condone the dishonest or fraudulent use of the Apple warranty or any third party extended coverage plan.

If it's of any help at all, I just sent in my kid's 10G 2nd gen. (for legitimate reasons, I might add) and it was replaced by a brand new 10G 2nd gen in a week.

Apple keeps huge warehouses full of the older generation iPods for this purpose. Thats how they can sell them in the special deals section under retail. Remember, its better to make more than you need and have some left over, than turn away prospective customers who wanted to buy an iPod because you understocked.
Also, you would only get the IPOD. Not any accessories. Nothing except the earbuds would work with the new iPod, and you couldn't update it with any music, so you would have to purchase $100 in accessories just to have it work. Sounds like way more trouble than its worth.
