I am running a very small radio station (1 watt) for a school. I'm making simple announcements in Garageband, then playing them on an iPod. These announcements play 24/7. Last week, the brand new ipod video i'd been using for the radio stopped working. At my local Apple store I was told that the ipod was only made for intermittent use.
My thought was that a flash based unit like the Nano or shuffle wouldn't have the same problem, but the sales rep was unsure and recommended a large tower device.

Does anyone have any experience or advice in this area? Thank you in advance

The problem is probably the unit overheating. The ones with the little hard drives inside get quite hot. So, I'd get a Nano and a good fan.

I'd like to hear more about your radio station. Do you play punk music?

It sounds like he plays announcements... and only announcements.

But yeah, a hard drive running for 24 hours continuously is never good. After just 4 hours of my PC being on, my hard drive is 30 degrees (Fahrenheit) warmer than when it is resting.

Yeah...even if the HDD isn't being accessed, it's spinning whenever it's docked/connected to a computer. I agree, a flash-based iPod would be better for this job.
