Guys,

I could really do with your help, I have got an ipod albeit without an USB connection cable, I have a old and crappy computer with only 64Mb of RAM, now the system requirements for the ipod say that there is a minimum requirement of 96 Mb RAM .....now does this mean that I am screwed and all the music I have saved on the #### thing is going to go to waste.

It is a Compaq 1200 with 700 Ghz Processor with Windows 2000 and it has served me well, I have had other MP3 player that it has worked fine with.

I have not been able to try to get the thing working as I am still waiting for the cable to arrive.

Please please advise

Cheers Guys.... I really want to get the it working, it looks #### good but I want to see the beautiful machine in action

You can get RAM for next to nothing--can your computer handle more RAM? If so, buy it--it's relatively easy to install....I'd do that anyway--it'll make a big difference not only for your ipod, but for your computer in general...

It might work fine. If it doesn't, you might want to consider getting a Mac... :-)

That's what I will do if I need a new computer.

dont listen to these clowns. On an ipod/mac site all they are gonna tell you is buy this buy that spend more mac mac mac.

My thoughts are this: the min. system requirements is just a preference for your computer to work "optimally" you have 64MB of ram which isn't a lot but granted it should still work. Not to mention your processor is 700mhz which is better than the typical old school 500mhz setup and sometimes slower.

I recommend closing all applications and screens including anything running in the background such as pop up killers, virus scanners or anything of the like and try using a program to load songs of your choice with one exception:

DO NOT USE ITUNES FOR WINDOWS

it is a huge system resources hog and being that your already just scooting by anyways, it would definitely not be a good idea to have it. You dont want it though it sucks anyways. Just get ephpod and you should be ready to rock. Let us know what happens

Don't listen to these clowns? I hope you weren't including me in that....Increasing RAM is a VERY logical, practical, and easy thing to do, and, provided his system can handle it, would probably make Itunes function just fine, not to mention any other programs he's running....It will make IMHO a HUGE difference in how your computer performs--should speed things up considerably, and would be well worth the cost. I'm sorry, but 64 mb RAM is going to be very, very slow....

Itunes for windows doesn't suck, gotta disagree with you there. It is a resource hog, but your computer would benefit with the additional RAM anyway, and it would make the RAM requirements a moot point with Itunes--bump up your RAM, and it should run just fine--again, in my opinion, I'd do it anyway with the system you have; it's such an easy, cheap, but beneficial improvement. Itunes actually works quite well for the vast majority of users, and I'd strongly recommend it, especially to someone new at the game...Ephpod is ok, but it's simply not as user friendly as Itunes. You'll want smartlists, autosynch, dynamic smartlists with your ipod--Itunes is pretty darned good; it simply allows you to do many things relatively easily. I've spent a lot of time with ephpod, Media Center 9, and Itunes, and IMHO the nod goes to Itunes (although Media Center 9, with a few tweaks, may become my favorite again down the line).
